Tapovanaya is a Buddhist Centre established in a twelve acre land which is a forest grove that lies  three kilometers off from Colombo city limits.
 
This is a Buddhist monastery with variety of  services including a meditation centre, Bhikkhu Training Institute, and an Orphanage known as Kumara Kasyapa Boy's Home.
 
Gothama Thapovanaya  was established in 1962 under the patronage of late Venerable Kudawelle Vangees Nayake Thero who was popular among Buddhists as a meditation master and a Buddhist preacher. This Centre is run by Mathika Matha Society founded by the above mentioned Vangeesa Maha  Thero.
 
Presently the chief incumbent of this Centre is Venerable Dodampahala Chandrasiri Maha Thero who is also the patriarch of the Kalyana Vansa Chapter of Amarapura Sect, Sri Lanka.
 
Meditation Retreats are organized according to the demand of those who wish to follow Vipassana Meditation as taught by late Ven. Mahasi Sayadow Maha Thero.
